Over the years, I’ve met young women who have shared with me something they’re going through, followed by, “Am I abused?”
I always answer, “If you have to ask yourself if you’re being abused, you just might be.”
The fact is, if you have questions about something someone else is doing to you, chances are, you don’t like whatever it is they’re doing. Whether it’s physical or emotional, if something inside of you thinks it feels wrong, if it hurts you, it could very well be abuse.
Talk with someone. Call a hotline or ask a trusted friend. Learn the signs of an abusive person. Educate yourselves on what constitutes abuse.
The first step for many is to recognize the abuse for what it is.
“Then I passed by and saw you kicking about in your blood, and as you lay there in your blood I said to you, ‘Live!’ …” -Ezekiel 16:6
The passages are about Jerusalem, but this verse spoke to me about my life – my past and my present. God picked me up out of my mess and said, “Live!”
Whether you are religious or not, you are loved – and despite your past, you can LIVE. Despite your present, you can LIVE. You are stronger than you know.
