Every story — every voice — is important. We want to hear YOURS.
Scars and Tiaras: Alive to Thrive accepts essays of 400-600 words only. Our goal is to publish one new essay each week.
Pay is currently set at $15, payable on publication. Payment is made via PayPal only.
We are looking for short essays that tell your story and how you are thriving after an abusive past. This site is about reclaiming your beautiful self after a painful past of abuse and violence (domestic violence, child abuse, sexual assault). Not all painful things fit this site. We cannot and should not cover it all. But if you have a story you’d like to share that fits our site, we’d love to hear from you.
Please take time to review the web site.

A Word from Angela
Your story is important. Sometimes I share my life and the other person says, “Well, I kind of know how you feel. I guess not really, because what happened to me wasn’t THAT bad, not as bad as yours, but…”
No. Stop that.
What happened to you should never be dismissed because it isn’t “as bad” as someone else’s story. My story is worse than some, but also better than others. I’m still here, I’m still alive. Many didn’t make it. Does that make my story less valuable? Nope. Nor does my story make yours less valuable. So please share with people, please keep telling your story. You never know whose life you will change.
